Engine’s 2024 rebuild became the foundation for Art of Biddeford, launched in time for the August 2025 Art Walk

We first worked with Engine, an arts non-profit at 205 Main Street in Biddeford, in 2024 through a Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) grant. Their WordPress website had become hard to navigate, and they wanted simpler navigation and a better way to organize their artists, exhibitions and many events.
Since then, Engine has become part of Heart of Biddeford, and its work lives on through Art of Biddeford. In 2025 another SMPDC grant brought Heart of Biddeford to us to build artofbiddeford.org, a home for the artists and venues that take part in Biddeford’s monthly Art Walks and other art initiatives, built on the work we had already done for Engine.
Because Engine’s website was already on WordPress, we reskinned it on Breakdance and reorganized how their information was stored so it made more sense. We rebuilt the pages on one template their team could duplicate, reorganized the menu into About, Creators (Exhibitions and Featured Creators), Programs, News & Events and Give, and added new pages for their Community Art Bus and Decentralized Gallery. We cleaned up about 35 old and unused pages, pulled the color palette from their Art Walk designs and checked it for accessibility, added a sponsor section and an Art Walk banner, trained the team over screenshare, and helped them cut unnecessary fees from their GoDaddy account.
When Art of Biddeford came to us, we took what we had built for Engine and expanded on it for their goals. Together we talked through how best to present the information, what would make the team’s lives easier and how the site could grow as their needs changed. What we landed on helps artists in Biddeford get found, gives venues a place to showcase artists, and puts it all together so visitors can take a walk through town, visiting different venues to see different artists.
Engine’s refreshed website launched in August 2024, and that work became the foundation for Art of Biddeford. We worked with the Heart of Biddeford team to load in data from the earlier 2025 Art Walks and taught them how to add upcoming ones, then launched the full website in August 2025, before that month’s Art Walk, so they could finish out the season with it and use it for their upcoming Fringe Fest.
